MY POWER GIRL POWER!

MY POWER GIRL POWER! Media Experience
A Project of Mindful Community Institute

The Mindful Community Institute emphasizes the importance of honoring an individual’s talents and greater purpose. Proposing a module that is inclusive of many avenues of production, the Institute promotes the discovery and support of each person’s unique contributions and services. Community service sectors include Artists, Builders, Caregivers, Knowledge Seekers, and Communicators and Motivators. Co-Founders Yvonne Miller Vinson and Valarie Sewell encourage us to find our own space in the larger circle that is the community whole.

Esoteric Lore not only pays homage to the work of the Mindful Community Institute, but also had the wonderful opportunity to teach a workshop at their last conference.

MY POWER GIRL POWER! Media Experience was held on December 3 -4 of 2011. Inviting a group of 10-14 year old girls, the conference allowed for cross- generational teaching through a series of presentations. These “inner-circle learning experiences” help young girls to build confidence and make connections to real world possibilities.   Esoteric Lore led a media critique and creation workshop where a group of girls were given the space to honor themselves and celebrate their ancestral history. Engaging mixed media art and photography, this two part, hands on workshop, placed emphasis on the necessity of storytelling. Participants were also exposed to Malian artist Seydou Keita and conducted their own portrait studio based off of his photographs. Using creativity to learn, Esoteric Lore looks forward to future opportunities to share our innovative workshops with the community.

Esoteric Lore had a very successful year

Its so crazy how time flies. It's offically been over a year since we first started the Esoteric Lore Collective and for our second year around we've had some great accomplishments.

1. We gathered some awesome new members, when initially we started with 4 members.

2. We had a very successful exhibition at a very historic library in Atlanta (Auburn Ave Research Library).

3. We have a great website up and running (Esotericlore.org)

4. We've gotten a lot of press and support and great encouragement from Atlanta's art community.
